Dance and/or Tumbling Instructor

REPORTS TO: Program Director
REQUIREMENTS: Prior (preferably recent) experience in area of interest (tumbling, dance, cheerleading, etc.) Must have at least one year prior teaching experience, preferably with a variety of ages.  Prior experience with competition dance is preferred.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:

• Teach classes of ages 3 to adult.

• Follow progressions and/or lesson plans for the particular class.
• Maintain age appropriateness within each class.
• Adjust methods to students’ level.
• Maintain class discipline and dress code as stated.
• Provide a fun approach to class.
• Maintain children’s safety.
• Choreograph and prepare individual routines/pieces for individual classes.
• Attend/conduct extra rehearsals if necessary.
• Assist with preparation/cleanup at theater for performances.
• Assist with rehearsal and performance.
• Present image as a mature, responsible professional.
• Read policy sheets, brochures, newsletters, etc.
• Start classes on time, with material and music prepared.
• Take responsibility for any equipment used, such as stereo equipment.
• Speak to parents in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.
• Report any problems to supervisor.

WORK SCHEDULE: Depends on studio needs and classes available. Could involve daytime, evening and/or weekends.
COMPENSATION: Depends on experience, age of instructor, and ability.

Director Positions

REPORTS TO:Artistic Director
REQUIREMENTS: Education - A minimum of 5 years (preferably recent) training/experience in a variety of dance styles.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least five years prior teaching experience with a variety of ages and levels. Additional experience in competitive dance is preferred. Management experience is also beneficial.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

• Act as Director.

• Develop regular marketing strategies to increase enrollment in the program (both internal and external).

• Hire, manage and train staff (instructors and assistant instructors).
• Supervise and periodically monitor all classes. Counsel on ways to make improvements. Insure that each instructor adheres to standards and guidelines.
• Develop weekly lesson plans and fun events for students.
• Develop progressions and/or lesson plans for each particular class offered.
• Maintain standards for class discipline, dress code and other policies and procedures.
• Maintain studio cleanliness and overall appearance.
• Conduct, attend and contribute to staff meetings.
• Support management decisions.

For Competition Director Position:
Choreograph and prepare unique and creative competition pieces for competition teams, solos, duets and trios. This will involve choosing music and designing costumes. The Artistic Director must approve selections. Costume selection could involve extra time in searching the internet, browsing through catalogs, shopping for materials, working with seamstresses, etc.

General Class Instruction

• Teach classes as assigned by the Artistic Director.
  
• Teach or find substitute teachers for any dance classes that do not have instructors. Train and manage assistant instructors.
  
• Choreograph and prepare creative and unique pieces for individual classes. This may involve choosing music and costumes.
  
• Attend/conduct extra rehearsals when necessary.
• Assist with preparation/cleanup at theater for performances.
• Assist with rehearsal and performance.
• Present image as a mature, responsible professional.
• Read policy sheets, brochures, newsletters, etc.
• Start classes on time, with material and music prepared.
• Take responsibility for any equipment used, such as gym and stereo equipment.
• Speak to parents in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.
• Report any problems to owner.
• Teach private lessons as necessary.

COMPENSATION: Depends on experience, age of instructor, and ability. Pay is hourly.
WORK SCHEDULE: Hours will vary; approximately 40 hours a week split up as follows:

• General Class Instruction - 20-25 hours weekly
• Private Lessons - 5-10 hours weekly
• Management/Office/Marketing - 10 hours weekly
• Extra Rehearsals, Auditions, Meetings, Parties and Performances - periodically as needed
