Anne Kramer Wins “Teacher of the Year” Award!
During this year’s Kids Artistic Revue Nationals Competition in Toledo, Ohio, Miss Anne (Dance Etc.’s owner and artistic director) received the "Teacher of the Year" award! This award is based on the total scores received by all performers at the competition. “It’s really all about the kids,” says Miss Anne. “but I don’t mind being appreciated for all the work I do, too!”
Miss Anne was also a judge for the KAR Nationals Competition in Las Vegas, Nevada. The schedule involved 48 hours total of judging throughout 7 days! One particular day was 8:00 am to 11:00 pm. “That’s a lot of dances,” says Miss Anne. “It’s not an easy job, and requires a lot of concentration. I take the job very seriously, because I know how important it is to the competitors. Judges need to be fair and consistent.” Anne has several years of judging experience, but this is her first Nationals, so it is very exciting to be invited!
Kids Artistic Revue, headquartered in Southern California, is also known as KAR for short. Anne Kramer Teaches School of Creative & Performing Arts
Miss Anne was invited to teach belly dancing at The School for Creative & Performing Arts (SCPA) Student’s Summer Program. SCPA is a K-12 Cincinnati Public School offering world class pre-professional arts training and advanced college preparatory academics. Approximately 1,370 students attend SCPA, which is housed in the new Erich Kunzel Center for Arts and Education in downtown Cincinnati. Artistic Departments include Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Instrumental Music, Technical Theater, Visual Arts, and Vocal Music.
Belly Dancing originally arose from various dancing styles from the Middle East and North Africa. Although it is termed “Belly Dancing”, all parts of the body are used with most of the focus on the hips. Most of the movements involve isolating these different parts of the body, so that one part of the body is moving while the rest are fairly stationary. “Belly dancing is its own art form,” Miss Anne adds, “it’s classy, feminine, beautiful and simply great for your abs. It’s also a great way to teach dancers to become more fluid in their movements.”
Dance Etc. also offers belly dancing classes for adults in the summer and fall!
