Positions Available:


POSITION:Dance Director

REPORTS TO:Artistic Director
REQUIREMENTS: Education - A minimum of 5 years (preferably recent) training/experience in a variety of dance styles.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least five years prior teaching experience with a variety of ages and levels. Additional experience in competitive dance is preferred. Management experience is also beneficial.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Management: Director of Recreational Dance Program
  • Act as director of Recreational Dance Program at Dance Etc.
  • Develop regular marketing strategies to increase enrollment in the program (both internal and external).
  • Hire, manage and train staff (instructors and assistant instructors) to teach all dance classes offered at Dance Etc.
  • Supervise and periodically monitor all recreational dance classes. Counsel on ways to make improvements. Insure that each instructor adheres to standards and guidelines.
  • Develop weekly lesson plans and fun events for students.
  • Develop progressions and/or lesson plans for each particular class offered.
  • Maintain standards for class discipline, dress code and other policies and procedures.
  • Come up with ways for the studio to economize and save money.
  • Maintain studio cleanliness and overall appearance.
  • Conduct, attend and contribute to staff meetings.
  • Support management decisions.
Management: Director of Competition Groups
  • Act as instructor for various competition groups at Dance Etc., as assigned by the Artistic Director.
  • Choreograph and prepare unique and creative competition pieces for competition teams, solos, duets and trios. This will involve choosing music and designing costumes. The Artistic Director must approve selections. Costume selection could involve extra time in searching the internet, browsing through catalogs, shopping for materials, working with seamstresses, etc.
  • Attend competitions and be present for all required routines.
  • Develop regular marketing strategies to increase enrollment in the program. (Both internal and external.) Regularly send press releases to newspapers to promote the program.
  • Attend team events, team-building functions, and parties.
  • Contribute to monthly parent meeting agenda.
  • Problem solving; making phone calls to parents, etc.
General Class Instruction
  • Teach a minimum of 25 hours of classes per week.
  • Teach any dance classes that do not have instructors.
  • Choreograph and prepare recital pieces for individual classes.
  • Attend/conduct extra rehearsals when necessary.
  • Assist with setup/cleanup at theatre for performances.
  • Assist with rehearsal and performance.
  • Present image as a mature, responsible professional.
  • Read policy sheets, brochures, newsletters, etc.
  • Start classes on time, with material and music prepared.
  • Take responsibility for any equipment used, such as gym and stereo equipment.
  • Speak to parents in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.
  • Report any problems to owner.
  • Teach private lessons as necessary.

COMPENSATION: Depends on experience, age of instructor, and ability. Pay is hourly.
WORK SCHEDULE: Hours will vary; approximately 40 hours a week split up as follows:

  • General Class Instruction (Recreational and Competitive) - 25 hours weekly
  • Private Lessons - 5 hours weekly
  • Management/Office/Marketing - 10 hours weekly
  • Extra Rehearsals, Tryouts, Meetings, Parties and Competitions - periodically as needed

POSITION:Cheerleading and Tumbling Director

REPORTS TO: Dance Program Director
REQUIREMENTS: Education - A minimum of 5 years (preferably recent) training/experience in tumbling/cheerleading.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least five years prior teaching experience with a variety of ages. Additional experience in competitive cheerleading is preferred. Management experience is also beneficial.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Management: Director of Cheerleading Program
  • Act as director of All-Star and Recreational Cheerleading Programs at Dance Etc.
  • Choreograph and prepare unique and creative competition routines for competition groups. This will involve choosing music and choreographing routines and stunts.
  • Conduct annual tryouts and new parent orientation meetings.
  • Recruit new members to the program. Contribute ways to increase the All-Star Program?s enrollment, revenue and visibility.
  • Attend competitions, warm up groups, and be present for all cheerleading routines.
  • Make decisions on uniforms, warm-up outfits, shoes, dress code, etc.
  • Establish policies and procedures for student tardiness, attendance, etc.
  • Attend team events, team-building functions, and parties.
  • Contribute to monthly parent meeting agenda.
  • Contribute to advertising and marketing program for the All-Star Program, send press releases, design quarterly newsletters, etc.
  • Problem solving; making phone calls to parents, etc.
Management: Director of Tumbling Program
  • Act as director of Tumbling Program.
  • Hire, manage and train staff (instructors and assistant instructors) to teach the tumbling program.
  • Supervise and periodically monitor appropriate classes.
  • Counsel instructors on ways to make improvements.
  • Insure that each instructor adheres to safety guidelines.
  • Develop weekly lesson plans and fun events for students.
  • Develop progressions and/or lesson plans for each particular class offered.

  • Must be able to spot back handsprings, back tucks, layouts, etc. Must be able to teach skills in progression. Complete periodic student evaluations.

  • Attend/conduct extra rehearsals when necessary.
  • Assist with setup/cleanup at theatre for performances.
  • Assist with rehearsal and performance.
  • Present image as a mature, responsible professional.

POSITION:Part Time Dance Instructor

REPORTS TO: Dance Program Director
REQUIREMENTS: Education - Prior (preferably recent) dance experience in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and/or hip-hop. Must have at least one year prior teaching experience, preferably with a variety of ages.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Prior experience with competition dance.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Teach classes of ages 3 to adult.
  • Follow progressions and/or lesson plans for the particular class.
  • Maintain age appropriateness within each class.
  • Adjust methods to students’ level.
  • Maintain class discipline and dress code as stated.
  • Provide a fun approach to class.
  • Maintain children’s safety.
  • Choreograph and prepare recital pieces for individual classes.
  • Attend/conduct extra rehearsals if necessary.
  • Assist with setup/cleanup at theatre for performances.
  • Assist with rehearsal and performance.
  • Present image as a mature, responsible dance professional.

WORK SCHEDULE: Depends on studio needs and classes available. Could involve daytime, evening and/or weekends.
COMPENSATION: Depends on experience, age of instructor, and ability. Pay ranges from $10.00 to $25.00 per hour.
